UFC 249 Results – Ferguson vs. Gaethje, Cejudo vs. Cruz
The Ultimate Fighting Championship is back with UFC 249 on Saturday, May 9. The event will take place at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida but in the absence of fans as the coronavirus pandemic continues to unfold.
Saturday night’s main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.
Two title fights headline the card. In the main event, Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje will meet at 155-pounds to see who walks away with the UFC interim lightweight championship. The winner is expected to face champion Khabib Nurmagomedov later down the road.
In the night’s co-main event, bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo defends against former champion Dominick Cruz.
One fight was removed from the card less than 24 hours ago as Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza did test positive for coronavirus. Souza was scheduled to fight Uriah Hall in a middleweight bout.
Despite the negative attention that will likely be drawn for Souza’s positive coronavirus test, the UFC 249 card will still go on as planned.
