Chase Sherman returns to the UFC in a big way

A light-heavyweight clash between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixera headlines the event at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville Florida. Ovince Saint Preux bounces up to heavyweight to take on Ben Rothwell in the co-main event.

Chase Sherman and Ike Villanueva kicked off the main the night with opening fight off the evening, which is expected to be a slugfest.

Sherman is returning to the UFC after spending part of 2018 and all of 2019 in the Island Fights organization. He went 2-5 during his first stint with the UFC.

Villanueva is making his UFC debut.

Here’s a fight recap with a round-by breakdown of the fight.

Round 1

Both men came out calm and relaxed. Eventually in first minute, Sherman landed the first clean strike with a leg kick. After the leg kick, Sherman landed a nice combination that caught Villanueva’s attention. From there, Villanueva would start throwing bombs, but nothing landing with significant damage. Midway thought the first round Sherman, who is clearly dictating the pace, is starting to land beautiful combos with ease. He is landing kicks, body shots and tons of power punches to the Villanueva’s head. Sherman had a big end to the round landing a lot of big shots and by the end of the round Villanueva’s lead leg looked beat up.

Round 2

Sherman picked up right where he left off. Within the first 20 seconds of the round, Sherman landed a huge knee to Villanueva’s face. A fews seconds later Sherman just started teeing off and landed a huge elbow to get the finish 49 seconds into the round.

Official result: Chase Sherman def. Ike Villanueva by TKO (referee stoppage) at 0:49 in the second round.
