On Saturday night, Feb. 29, 2020, the UFC returns to action for their very first leap year event in the company’s history with UFC on ESPN+ 27.
The event takes place at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Va. and will be headlined by a flyweight title fight between Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo, in which only Benavidez can capture UFC gold with a win due to Figueiredo missing weight.
Not only is the UFC Norfolk event important for the men’s flyweight division, but the women’s featherweight weight class as well. In the first of two 145-pound women’s bouts, Megan Anderson takes on the unbeaten Norma Dumont. Anderson will look to make it two straight wins inside the Octagon after submitting Zarah Fairn in the first round at October’s UFC 243 event. Since making her promotional debut at UFC 225 in June 2018, Anderson has flip flopped wins and losses and a victory on Saturday night could lead her to a title shot against Amanda Nunes.
Dumont will make her UFC debut, as well as her debut at the 145-pound weight class on Saturday night. Fighting out of Brazil, “Imortal” has won all four of her pro fights as she returns to competition for the first time since her majority decision win over 21-fight veteran Mariana Morais at Shooto Brazil 86 in August 2018.
