Invincible? GLORY featherweight champion Petch might well be unbeatable

GLORY World Featherweight Champion laughs and smiles his way through title challenge from world-class contender

The GLORY World Featherweight Championship remains with Thai standout Petchpanomrung, also known as Petch, (164-36-3, 27 KO’s) following a successful defense against former champion Serhiy Adamchuk (40-12, 15 KO’s) in the GLORY 75 UTRECHT main event.

Despite Adamchuk’s wide skill-set and palpable determination to regain the belt, Petch had an untroubled air for most of the five-round fight, at times even laughing or smiling broadly when Adamchuk managed to land something of note, as if to congratulate him.

A game gave it his all and had clearly worked hard on his tactics for this third meeting between them, but Petchpanomrung was on career-best form and landed with machine-like precision throughout the fight, winning a clear-cut decision at the end.

Numerous fights ended inside the distance in Utrecht but none more emphatically than Sergej Maslobojev’s (31-5, 20 KO’s) stoppage of Roël Mannaart (25-3, 12 KO’s). The soft-spoken Lithuanian lived up to his ‘Sledgehammer’ nickname, mauling the accomplished Mannaart in just 108 seconds and breaking the Dutchman’s jaw in the process.

Elsewhere on the card, Yousri Belgaroui (27-6, 14 KO’s) forced a doctor’s stoppage of Jakob Styben (16-3, 7 KO’s) and Tyjani Beztati (20-4, 7 KO’s) ended Michaël Palandre’s (30-4, 12 KO’s) night early.

Finally, Jamie Bates (27-7, 3 KO’s) made what will surely be the 2020 comeback of the year when he climbed off the canvas after what looked like a knockout blow and went on to beat former champion Harut Grigorian (48-13, 33 KO’s) by decision.

GLORY 75 UTRECHT took place Saturday, February 29 at Central Studios, Utrecht, Netherlands.
