UFC on FOX 22 Results: Paige VanZant vs Michelle Waterson

UFC on FOX 22 results – Paige VanZant vs Michelle Waterson

UFC on FOX 22 from Sacramento, California takes place at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento and airs on FOX following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event, the number seven ranked UFC women’s strawweight competitor Paige VanZant took on number 11 ranked, Michelle Waterson.

The former Invicta FC atomweight champion Waterson never looked more impressive choking out VanZant via rear-naked choke in the first round.

Gall Calls His Next Shot

In the evening’s co-main event, two alum of the show, ‘Dana White: Lookin’ For a Fight,’ will settle their differences as Mickey Gall and Sage Northcutt go toe-to-toe.

In the first round Gall got Nortcutt down to the ground and worked to get some submissions but to no avail.  Gall applied a guillotine but Northcutt slipped out and stood to his feet where he challenged the New Jersey native to get back up.  Some trash talk ensued before Gall stood up and then Northcutt started to get loose landing a body kick before took it back down to the ground before the round ended.

As the second round opened Northcutt managed to cut Gall but Gall came to with a big shot, knocking Northcutt down and then submitting him with a rear-naked choke.

Then in typical Mickey Gall fashion, he called out his next opponent.  Gall called out the returning Dan Hardy for 155 pounds.

Farewell Faber

Also, ‘The California Kid,’ Urijah Faber fought in his final mixed martial arts contest as he takes on Brad Pickett before hanging up the gloves.

Faber looked absolutely amazing in the first round.  He landed a big shot that knocked Pickett down, and pounced on him as referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy looked on.  Pickett snapped back and was able to defend himself but not before Faber continued to get full mount, then back control, just landed shots over and over, blooding him in the process before the bell rung.

The second and third rounds were more of Faber getting Pickett down and attempting to work for his favorite submission, the guillotine choke.  The fight would ultimately go the distance with Faber getting the win in his final fight via unanimous decision.

In his post fight interview Faber thanked the fans and the UFC staff for all the support but said, “I’m ready to move forward and do big things.”

Joubain Decisive

Opening up the main card were Alan Joubain and previously undefeated Mike Perry.  Perry showed Joubain no love at the weigh-ins but was respectful in defeat as he was on the losing end of a unanimous decision and would suffer his first professional loss.

What a Fight

Leslie Smith defeated UFC newcomer Irene Aldana, who just came over from Invicta Fighting Championships, via unanimous decision.  This was one of the best female fights that the UFC has put on to date.

Wineland Wins

A pair of former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) veterans in Eddie Wineland and Takeya Mizugaki went to battle in the featured bout of the prelims on UFC Fight Pass.  Wineland made short work of Mizugaki, defeating him via TKO in the first round.
