UFC’s Andre Petroski hosting Underground Open grappling tournament Feb 19th

Interview with Andre Petroski above

Andre Petroski worked his ass off to get to the UFC, and now he is using his platform to try and give back to the combat sports community.  On Saturday, February 19th, Petroski will host the first Underground Open, which is a grappling tournament under the no-gi format with a 2-point rule set.  This event will take place at The Underground Wrestling Club located at 835 East Clements Bridge Road in Runnemede, NJ.  It’s a place where Andre has trained as well as coached and considering his strong wrestling background, it has been a very natural relationship.

Petroski tells us some of the reasons behind his venture…

“I was lucky enough to where I grew up wrestling.  We competed every other weekend and it was 20$ for an entry to do a wrestling tournament. So that was kind of my motivation to give people that maybe even haven’t competed a lot, that aren’t going to get on these super fight cards or have those opportunities, they can compete for a reasonable price.”

Please check out our interview on the link above.  Petroski talks about more about the Underground Open Grappling tournament and how these kinds of events have helped him get to where he is.  Petroski is also looking for a few more referees and would like purple belts and above.  These are paid positions, so hit him up on his IG or Facebook if you are interested.

Petroski got the call to be on last season’s The Ultimate Fighter, where he was the first pick of Team Ortega.  The well-spoken fighter didn’t make it to the final but left a great impression on Dana White and company and was given a contract.  In his first two appearances inside the octagon, he has a finish by ground and pound and a submission via arm triangle choke.  Dre’ as he is known to his friends, is a powerful ground fighter and is crafting his striking and is among the contingency of Philadelphia talent that are racking up win after win in the big show these days.  He didn’t have any new fight news for us but says that he is waiting patiently to get his next assignment.

MyMMANews will be up front and center when Petroski signs for his next opponent and definitely get a preview of that fight.
