Usman Nurmagomedov makes quick work of Chris Gonzalez at Bellator 283

Bellator MMA returns to us tonight, July 22, 2022, for Bellator 283, going down live from the Emerald Queen Casino and Hotel in Tacoma, Washington.

Headlining the event was initially slated to be a Bellator lightweight championship bout between current champion Patricky Freire and his challenger, no. 1 ranked Sidney Outlaw.

However, Freire was forced out of the bout with an injury, and considering, our main event of the evening comes in the welterweight division between former Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima and fellow top contender Jason Jackson.

Co-headlining the event is a lightweight bout between Sidney Outlaw and Rizin talent Tofiq Musayev.

Our feature fight of the night also came in the lightweight division, this one between Usman Nurmagomedov and Chris Gonzalez.

Official Result: Usman Nurmagomedov def. Chris Gonzalez via submission (front choke) at 2:54 of round one

Nurmagomedov does a good job early of keeping his distance, as well as controlling the center with his flashy kicks. Gonzalez returns a head kick of his own, but Nurmagomedov is wise to it and continues landing strikes of his own.

Gonzalez desperately rushes him into the fence in search of a takedown, and the two trade knees in the clinch for a moment, before Nurmagomedov secures a trip takedown off the clinch. He then proceeds to wrap his arms around Gonzalez’ neck and secure the front choke victory, improving to 15-0 in the process.

Usman Nurmagomedov was ranked at no. 3 coming into this fight, do we see him fighting for the title next?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
