Vadim Nemkov Doesn’t Think Yoel Romero Wrestles at Bellator 297

Vadim Nemkov clashes with Yoel Romero at Bellator 297 on June 16th for the Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Championship.

Nemkov appeared on Bowks Talking Bouts, with the aid of an interpreter, to discuss the machinations of this Romero title defense, thoughts on his recent Grand Prix victory over Corey Anderson, and more. Excerpts from our chat are below.

Feelings of this fight finally coming to fruition after discussions around a prospective contest between the two existing for years now

“I’m all in for the good fights. So I heal myself, I heal my injuries. I’m feeling a hundred percent good. I have a very good camp. So I’m looking forward… Honestly, yes. I have injury at the fight with Corey (Anderson) and after that, I have an injury also. So I needed time to heal from my injuries, to recover, and right now I’m ready.”

The takeaways from previously defending his lineal belt, capturing the light heavyweight grand prix crown, and securing a million dollars as well in the Corey Anderson rematch

“For me, it’s not important money or something else. For me, it’s much important to get a W to fight. To win the fight and to make happy the crowd. To entertain them, that’s (as) much important as money for me… At the first fight say honest, I had a little problems with my health. I was not in the good shape. Really, it’s truth. So I didn’t show myself for a hundred percent. But at the next fight, I was in my shape. That was me. I knew that I’m stronger, I’m better than Corey (Anderson) and I prove it at the fight. That’s it.”

Nemkov’s thoughts on Romero’s stylistic attributes and resume overall

“So my opinion, the fight will be on the standing. That wouldn’t be on the ground. Maybe it’ll go to the ground on the last rounds. But my opinion, it will be on the stand, on hand to hand. That will be on the stand… Yoel loves to wrestle, like to wrestle with opponents who’s worse than him. At that moment, he uses his wrestling skills. But if the wrestling skills is the same, Yoel doesn’t go to the wrestling. So I don’t think he’s gonna wrestle with me.”

If Nemkov has a predominant visualization for how this Romero fight ends

“My advantage is my speed. I will be much faster than him. So my visualization is I will be faster… I prepare myself for the long fight. Always for the all distance. That’s why I prepare myself, my camp was in the mountains. But I love to finish fights as quick as possible. I hope that fans going to love this fight because me and Yoel, we both show very good fights. We entertain the people. So just be ready for the good show.”
