Vinc Pichel earns unanimous decision win over Jim Miller

UFC 252 takes place inside the UFC Apex tonight, Saturday, Aug. 15. Current heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and former two-weight champion Daniel Cormier settle the score in the main event.

Rising star Sean O’Malley puts his perfect record to the test against fellow bantamweight Marlon Vera in the night’s co-main event.

Headlining the prelims will be UFC veteran Jim Miller and Vinc Pichel meeting in a lightweight bout.

Miller (32-14, 1NC) holds the UFC record for most fights with 35. A win on Saturday would tie him with Donald Cerrone for most wins in the promotion. The 36-year-old has been on a roll as of late but winning three of his last four fights. He picked up a win over Roosevelt Roberts in his lasting outing in June.

Pichel (12-2) is also coming off a win over Roberts in June of 2019. Back in 2012, Pichel fought on the TUF and then two years later he officially started his UFC career. While inactive, Pichel has won five of his past six fights.

Round 1

Both men come out being patience and looking to land some combinations.

After a minute and a half of action, Miller throws a kick that lands low and referee Herb Dean stops the fight.

Once the fight resumes, Miller goes to the clinch and pushes Pichel against the cage. While against the cage, Miller lands a few strikes including some knees and one nice elbow.

The two separate with two minutes left in the round. A few seconds later, Miller scores a take down and has Pichel’s back and is looking for a submission.

One minute left in the round, Pichel tries to escape and Miller briefly gets ahold of Pichel’s neck. Pichel stays tough and makes it out of the round by avoiding a few submission attempts.

Round 2

Pichel lands a head kick to start the round, but Miller just rolls with it and goes right in and gets another takedown and this time he’ll have four minutes to work.

After about a minute on the ground, Pichel gets back to his feet and pushes Miller against the fence.

Miller attempts guillotine and doesn’t get it and now Miller is on his back. Miller tries to do some work off his back, but Pichel won’t let him and starts landing a few heavy shots.

With a minute and a half left in the round, Pichel lands a few nice elbows.
Pichel shows his strength as his keeps Miller on his back and lands a more shots as the round comes to a close.

Round 3

Pichel comes right out and lands a takedown within the first few seconds of the round. He tries for a quick submission, but Miller is able to avoid it.

Pichel starts throwing punch after punch and once Miller tries to move, Pichel takes his back.

Miller has no quit in him and counters and tries for a choke. Pichel is now laying with Miller on top of him. Miller briefly gets Pichel’s back, but Pichel counters and gets out of it.

The two work their way to the feet in this action packed last round.

Pichel tries for a takedown and it’s stuffed but he lands a big knee shortly after it. Moments later Pichel lands a big kick.

Miller then gets Pichel in another guillotine and had it locked, but Pichel’s sweaty body allows him to get out of it and he ends the round on top and gets a few more shots in before the horn goes off.

Great round. Great fight.
