Wesley Russum: If my striking matches his, then that’s where it’ll stay”

Wesley Russum comes from a long lineage of incredible wrestling credentials. From the early ages of middle school, he knew he wanted to make fighting mixed martial arts his profession. Still in the early stages of his MMA career, Russum is on the ride as he has become the joint product of two premiere martial arts facilities. He utilizes MVJ training facilities to hone his boxing and kickboxing and predominantly focuses on grappling at First State Martial Arts.

On Saturday, February 1st, Russum returns to the Stellar Fights cage to take on 302 BJJ/System X Muay Thai student, Scott Suiter in a bantamweight showdown that assures the price of admission, alone.

Both fighters are coming off of losses, so getting back in the win column is a necessity for Russum.

When discussing the bout with Suiter, Russum confidently explains “I know he likes to stand and throw. He looks tough!” Continuing with, “If I feel like my striking matches his, then that’s where it’ll stay and if I feel like I need to take it to the ground, then that’s what I’ll try to do.”

“A bold prediction would be that I finish this fight standing!” Russum says about his ultimate goal in the fight. “Striking wise would be my ultimate goal for this. So, if anything, if I can get it done in the second… Finishing-striking wise…That would be a great goal!”

Tune in above to hear the full interview as MyMMANews chats 1-on-1 with Wesley Russum via Skype ahead of his Stellar Fights 45 matchup against Scott Suiter.
