William Knight takes down Aleksa Camur in decision win

The second stint of “Fight Island” kicks off with UFC 253 tonight, Saturday, Sept. 26.

Headlining the pay-per-view event is a battle of undefeated fighters in UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya and the surging Paulo Costa. The first of two title fights takes place in the co-main event as Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz look to claim the vacant UFC light-heavyweight championship. 

Starting off the preliminary card on ESPN 2 and ESPN+ is a light-heavyweight bout between UFC newcomer William Knight and Aleksa Camur.

Knight capped off his UFC development deal by sealing a contract with a first-round TKO win against Cody Brundage on Dana White’s Contender Series on Sept. 1. Knight suffered his first professional loss, first-round TKO to now-UFC light-heavyweight Tafon Nchukwi at CFFC 80 in November 2019.

Camur is a perfect 6-0 after defeating Justin Ledet via unanimous decision in his UFC debut back in January. He also earned a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series, earning a second-round knockout against Fabio Cherant in July 2019.

ROUND 1

They tap gloves and Camur circles right away. Knight lands an inside leg kick early. Camur pops the jab, using his distance. Knight pressures Camur and clinches. Knight puts Camur against the cage. Knight has an under hook in, but Camur turns and lands a knee. Camur has Knight against the cage. Knight reverses the position puts Camur against the cage. Camur turns and puts Knight against the cage. The two are battling for clinch control. Camur is using his under hook to control Knight. Camur lands a knee to the thigh of Knight. The referee breaks both parties up. Knight shoots a front kick. Knight lands a calf kick shortly after. Knight connects a few punches before the end of the round.

ROUND 2

Camur goes for a high kick early, doesn’t land. Knight still trying to get inside, Camur backing Knight up. Camur clinches and presses Knight against the cage. Camur trips Knight for a takedown. Camur takes the back of Knight and sinks both hooks in. Camur attacks the neck, but Knight defends and turns into the top position. Camur is holding Knight close to him, making it hard for Knight to land strikes. Camur scrambles and gets to his feet. Camur puts Knight against the cage. Knight hip tosses Camur to the canvas. Camur works to his feet and is controlling Knight against the cage. Knight takes Camur back to the canvas and is in side control. Knight landing short elbows. Camur turns and Knight takes the back. Knight is landing ground and pound. Camur turns in and Knight is in half guard. Knight trasitions to full mount. Knight cranks a kimura, but Camur survives the round.

ROUND 3

Camur throws a front kick early in round three. knight lands another leg kick. Camur comes forward, but Knight lands a jab. Camur closes the distance and clinches with Knight again. Camur has Knight against the cage, but Knight scores another takedown. Knight moves to side control and lands some short elbows. Camur stands, but Knight takes the back instantly. Camur is able to throw Knight off his back. Camur is in on the legs of Knight. Knight explodes up and Camur greets him with a knee. Knight puts Camur against the cage. Knight sinks in an under hook. Knight drops down for a takedown and secures it. Knight is in Camur’s half guard. Knight is throwing short right punches. About a minute left. Knight looks to take the back. Knight lands some short punches and Camur gives up his back even more. Camur bellies up, but Knight finishes the round in full mount.
