Yoel Romero vs Robert Whittaker is official

The scheduled UFC 213 bantamweight title matchup between champion Cody Garbrandt and and former champion TJ Dillashaw has officially been removed from the lineup.

Garbrandt who serves opposite Dillashaw as coaches on the current season of The Ultimate Fighter sustained a back injury and a result the fight has been removed from the card.

UFC president Dana White on Tuesday announced the big changes to the July 8 fight card in Las Vegas.

New Headliner and c0-main event

Amanda Nunes (14-4) will defend her women’s bantamweight title against Valentina Shevchenko (14-2) in the main event at T-Mobile Arena, while middleweights Yoel Romero (12-1) and Robert Whittaker (19-4) will battle for the interim title in the co-main event.

How Yoel Romero vs Robert Whittaker came to be

It was expected that Michael Bisping would defend his middleweight title against returning former welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, however after GSP said he won’t be ready until October or November, things began to change.

Then Bisping said that he too could not fight as he was rehabbing an injury, thus the interim fight between Romero and whittaker was put into place.
