Alexander Volkov eyes rematch against Ciryl Gane after UFC Las Vegas win

Alexander Volkov is hoping to run it back with Ciryl Gane.

Volkov and Gane headlined a Fight Night card from the UFC Apex in June of 2021 and the Frenchman won a decision. Since then, Volkov has gone 3-1 while Gane fought for the interim title and the undisputed title twice after the win over the Russian.

Yet, on Saturday Volkov picked up a one-sided TKO win over Alexandr Romanov at UFC Las Vegas, which the Russian was proud of.

“You always feel good after the victory, so I feel great that I won. Really what I’d like to say is everything that we’ve worked on in the camp. Everything we’ve put so much time into, I really feel that it’s great that it happened the way that it happened. Exactly what we expected him to do, he did in the fight,” Volkov said to the media after UFC Las Vegas. “This is what we worked on. So I feel like it wasn’t as fast as we thought it was going to be, but everything we expected did happen, which is why the fight happened the way that it did.”

With Volkov getting the win, the Russian hopes he can fight someone ranked ahead of him next time out. With that, he believes a rematch against Gane makes sense given the Frenchman is 1-2 in his last three and is 0-2 in undisputed title fights.

“Really, I’d like to possibly revenge somebody that I’ve lost to,” Volkov said. “Maybe, for instance, my rematch with Gane would be interesting.”

Alexander Volkov (36-10) is now on a two-fight winning streak as he TKO’d Romanov last time out and before that, TKO’d Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Prior to that, the Russian was submitted by Tom Aspinall after defeating Marcin Tybura to return to the win column after losing a decision to Gane.
