Andre Fili and Daniel Pineda ends in no contest at UFC Vegas 30

A featherweight affair between Andre Fili and Daniel Pineda ended in a no contest due to an accidental eye poke.

After dominant first round for Andre Fili on the feet, the Team Alpha Male product accidentally stuck his finger in the left eye of Pineda. Pineda argued with the doctor, but the fight was ruled a no contest during round two.

A pair of top-five heavyweights headline UFC Fight Night 190 on Saturday, June 26.

Unbeaten contender Ciryl Gane faces former Bellator champion Alexander Volkov inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sticking with the big guys, the co-main event features another heavyweight affair between Tanner Boser and Ovince Saint Preux.

Continuing the action early on the main card is a featherweight clash between two battle tested veterans Andre Fili [21-8] and Daniel Pineda [27-14-2], Fili will be coming into this fight following his decision loss to Bryce Mitchell in October. Meanwhile, Pineda returns after suffering a loss to Cub Swanson in his last outing.

Fili has finished 12 of his 21 wins with nine of those wins being knockouts. He has a UFC record of 9-7, winning two performance bonuses in that time.

Pineda earned 18 of 27 by submissions and nine of those wins are by knockout. Giving him a 100 percent finish rate in his wins. He is currently 0-5 when the fight goes to a decision.

ROUND 1

Herb Dean is the man in charge. Pineda opens up with a right hand. Fili lands a one-two down the middle and it momentarily sends Pineda stumbling. Pineda pushes Fili up against the cage, a bit of a stalemate at the moment. Fili clears himself from the clinch and they return to the centre. A heavy low kick lands from Pineda. Fili returns with a flush right high kick and lands a clean combination and rocks Pineda. Pineda panics and looks for a desperate takedown, Fili shakes it off. Back standing. Fili wastes no time and lands a huge body shot which freezes Pineda in his tracks, he falls to the mat. Fili connects with a few ground strikes and the bell goes.

ROUND 2:

Fili opens up with a left body kick, the same body shot that dropped Pineda in the first. A eye poke has momentarily stopped the fight, the doctor is having a close look. The doctor asks how many fingers he’s holding up, Pineda looks dazed and confused. Doctor is not liking what he is seeing, he gives Pineda another chance. Herb Dean doesn’t like the response from Pineda and ultimately waves off the fight.
