Our thoughts & prayers are with his family, friends & team at this painful time.”

Mpofu has just celebrated his 27th birthday on May 28. The Massachusetts native boasted an amateur MMA record of 7-5. He competed throughout most of his 12 bouts with New England based promotion, Cage Titans.

Mpofu went undefeated at 3-0 for his first three fights. He last competed on May 14 at All in Combat 2, where he picked up a second-round submission win over Sam Thompson.

A statment from the Wareham BJJ, Kickboxing & MMA at SBG East Coast near New Bedford & Cape Cod Facebook page read, “It’s with an incredibly heavy heart I share the news that Arthur Mpofu, a beloved member of our Tribe, passed away last night. ⁣

“No words can do justice to the blow this has been to his family, teammates, and friends. ⁣

“He was a devoted student, athlete, and friend who evolved over the years into a champion mixed martial artist and an excellent instructor in his own right. ⁣

“As one of our coaches aptly put it earlier today, most of Arthur’s existence was defined by the sheer sense of joy he exuded. It was infectious, and lit up everyone around him. ⁣

“Personally speaking, I have too many great memories of him to count, both on and off the training mat. ⁣

“One of the most deeply moving moments I’ve ever had was when he hugged me, looked me in the eye, and told me I was like a father to him. ⁣

“Our deepest condolences go out to everyone who knew and loved him, to his family, his SBG tribe here and in Alabama, Sityodtong, everyone. ⁣

We love you Arthur.”
