Austin Daffron Wins First Flyweight Finishers Sub Only Title – FULL RESULTS

This past Saturday, December 1, 2018, the Finishers Sub Only held its seventh event featuring their first ever 16-man tournament at 125 pounds for the Flyweight title and a $1,600 cash prize. The event was held at Finishers MMA in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The event was streamed on the Finishers MMA youtube page and Instagram live at @Finishers.tv. You can check out the full event replay here. As usual for the Finishers Sub Only events, Giulliana Fonseca was on site taking amazing professional pictures of the event and all photos are provided by her.

Austin Daffron
Daffron winning his first round match

The man of the hour for the 125 pound tournament was Austin Daffron of Kindred Jiu Jitsu, also known as Daffy the Duck Daffron, who came into the tournament relatively unknown but made quite the statement with his performance. His match times alone tell the tale of his dominance with a total of 2 minutes and 34 seconds spent on the mat while defeating 4 tough opponents, 3 by way of heel hook and one by rear naked choke. All four victories came in under a minute into the match, which is an extremely impressive feat for a tournament such as this. Not only did Daffron take home the Finishers Sub Only Flyweight title and $1,600 cash, but he now will be entered automatically into the Ultimate Mat Warriors 4 Flyweight Tournament that will be held out in San Diego, California in March of 2019. His flight to California is also taken care of as part of his prize, and with how quickly he tore through the Finishers Sub Only he will now likely be entering the Ultimate Mat Warriors event as one of the favorites to win the whole tournament out on the west coast as well.  He would like to thank his sponsors, Happenstance Coffee, Ancient Elite Performance, Ball Wash, and City Rain Co. CBD, for supporting him on the way to his victory.

Luong v Dantzler – Fight of the Night Match

The Fight of the Night went to an exciting first round tournament match between Marc Luong and Kevin Dantzler that ended by rear naked choke in overtime with the victory going to Dantzler. Make sure to stay tuned for the next Finishers Sub Only to be held the last weekend in February, which will be the same weekend as the next Finishers Open. The Finishers Open was created so that competitors who aren’t quite professional level yet can still test their skills in the EBI rule format and the first Open was a huge success, so make sure to keep an eye out for when registration opens.
