Billy Quarantillo to face Kyle Nelson in first UFC fight since coronavirus infection

Billy Quarantillo will enter the octagon for the first time since testing positive for COVID-19.

Quarantillo is set to face fellow lightweight Kyle Nelson at UFC’s event on Sept. 12. First reported by MMA Junkie, the bout will take place inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada

Quarantillo tested positive for the virus while cornering Matt Frevola at UFC on ESPN 11 this past June. Frevola was removed from his scheduled lightweight bout with Frank Camacho.

Billy Quarantillo moved to 2-0 inside the octagon after recently earning a unanimous-decision nod against Spike Carlyle at UFC on ESPN 9 on May 30. He defeated Jacob Kilburn via second-round submission in his UFC debut this past December.

The 31-year-old earned his UFC contract with a third-round TKO win against Kamuela Kirk on Dana White’s Contender Series in July 2019.

Nelson was slated to fight Sean Woodson at UFC on ESPN 12 on June 27, but was forced out due to visa issues. The Canadian last fought in September 2019, earning a first-round knockout against Polo Reyes in 96 seconds at UFC on ESPN+ 17.
