Gregory Rodrigues vs Brad Tavares scheduled for UFC 283

Brad Tavares out of UFC 283, Gregory Rodrigues in need of new opponent

The first UFC PPV of the year has taken a hit. On Tuesday, it was reported that middleweight Brad Tavares was forced to withdraw from his UFC 283 fight against Gregory Rodrigues, who is now in need of a new opponent. The news was first announced during a SuperBook Sports interview that Rodrigues was a guest on, and was later confirmed by MMA Fighting.

In what lined up to be a tough challenge on paper for Rodrigues, he will now need a new opponent with Brad Tavares out due to injury. “Robocop” went 2-1 in 2022, picking up wins in his final two fights of the year with finishes over Julian Marquez and Chidi Njokuani.

Since making his promotional debut with the UFC in 2021, Gregory Rodrigues, an alum of Dana White’s Contender Series, has gone 4-1, with his lone loss coming to Armen Petrosyan in February of last year. With the event just 11 days away, the UFC will have to work quickly to find a replacement fighter to fill in.

Brad Tavares had been looking to get back into the win column after his last fight was a loss to rising prospect Dricus Du Plessis by unanimous decision. One of the most respected and toughest fighters in the middleweight division. With notable fights coming against Israel Adesanya, Edmen Shahbazyan, Omari Akhmedov, and Du Plessis, Tavares has shown to be a challenge that rising talent must pass in order to reach the next level.

There is no word on the severity or exact injury suffered by Brad Tavares, but his 2023 debut will be on hold until he’s healthy enough to compete again.

Here is the current lineup for UFC 283 which is headlined by former light heavyweight champion Glover Teixiera facing first-time title challenger Jamahal Hill for the vacant title.
