The Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin press conference is brought to you by FITE TV and can be streamed below.
The highly-anticipated middleweight boxing title fight between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, September 16.
Golovkin, the unbeaten knockout puncher from Kazakhstan, will defend his middleweight titles against Alvarez, Mexico’s biggest boxing star. Alvarez, whose only loss was at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr., is coming off a lopsided win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last month in Las Vegas.
Golovkin (37-0, 33 knockouts) has been established as a 2-1 favorite over Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 knockouts) in a bout that was several years in the making. Alvarez is a former welterweight and super welterweight champion who moved up to a catch weight of 164 pounds for his fight against Chavez.
According to CBS Sports, “Saturday’s fight represents something far more important to the sport than any carnival sideshow can provide (no matter how entertaining or lucrative said fight turned out to be). Canelo-GGG is a reminder of how good the sport can be — how it used to be — when one simple philosophy matters most: the best fighting the best. In this case, the two best at middleweight just happen to be two of the most popular fighters in the entire sport. This is very much boxing’s Super Bowl and the best it can offer in terms of competition, 50/50 matchmaking and the potential for explosiveness.”
