David Taylor Brings Home Gold At 86kg In Olympic Games
Team USA has another Olympic champion. This time, David Taylor wins gold at 86 kilograms in a come from behind win over Iran’s Hassan Yazdani by a score of 4-3. Taylor brings home the gold medal in an incredible run up to and through the Olympic Games.
David Taylor fell behind early being placed on the shot clock and failed to score giving Yazdani a 1-0 lead early going into the break. Coming into the second period, Taylor gets another caution and penalty falling behind 2-0 before answering back with a 2 point takedown tying the score.
Yazdani answers back taking the lead with a push out, taking the lead and holding it with just under 30 seconds to win. Taylor shoots in on the takedown and securing as time expired giving him 2 points and an Olympic gold medal.
David Taylor’s Olympic Run
The career of David Taylor has been nothing short of spectacular. This Olympic gold medal is just the icing on the cake. The 202 US Olympic Team Trials was a shark tank and Taylor beat out Bo Nickal and former Olympic Champion, Jordan Burroughs for the spot on the team.
His run through the Olympics was just as special. Taylor teched Ali Shabanau of Belarus, Myles Amine of San Marino, and Deepak Punia of India before coming meet Yazdani in the finals.
Before the Olympics, Taylor and Yazdani met in the 2018 World Championships where Taylor won and went on to become World Champion. The two also met at the World Cup in 2017, which Taylor also won.
Elsewhere on Team USA, Thomas Gilman and Helen Maroulis captured gold medals and Kyle Dake dropped his semi final match as he was teched by Mahamedkhabib Kadzimahamedau of Belarus.
