Dricus Du Plessis knocks out Trevin Giles in round two

Dricus Du Plessis countered with a right hand to earn a second-round knockout victory against Trevin Giles at UFC 264 on Saturday, July 10.

Du Plessis controlled the pace in round one with constant leg kicks. Du Plessis also earned a takedown and set the tone on the ground as well.Du Plessis picks up his second UFC victory.

The score will finally settle when Dustin Poirier meets former UFC double champion Conor McGregor in the trilogy at UFC 264 on Saturday, July 10. 

A pair of top five welterweights in Gilbert Burns and Stephen Thompson clash in the co-main event inside a sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Following the early prelims is a middleweight contest between Trevin Giles and Dricus Du Plessis. Giles is on a three-fight win streak and kicked off 2021 with a unanimous decision against Roman Dalidze at UFC on ESPN 31 this past March. His other victories include wins against Bevon Lewis and James Krause.

Du Plessis is fresh off a successful UFC debut, knocking out Markus Perez in the first round at UFC Fight Night 179 last October. Like Giles, “Stillknocks” won three-consecutive fights.

ROUND 1

The pair tap gloves. Du Plessis works leg kicks early. Giles front leg taking some punishment in the beginning of round one. Du Plessis being active in round one, Giles throwing less. Giles comes forward with a flurry of punches. Du Plessis sticks with the leg kicks. Giles lands an outside leg kick. Du Plessis ducks under a right hand and gets in on the legs. Du Plessis scores a takedown, Giles gets to feet quickly. Du Plessis returns Giles back to the mat. Giles gives up his back, but able to scramble and escape out the back door. Giles controls Du Plessis. Du Plessis attacks the arm and use it to transition to top control. Du Plessis controlled position on the ground and landed more frequently on the feet.

ROUND 2

Du Plessis goes right back to kicks. Giles pops the jab, goes to the body. Giles lands a knee. Du Plessis lands a leg kick. Both men trade. Giles grabs the arm of Du Plessis and lands an elbow. Du Plessis counters with a right hand, dropping Giles to the floor. The South African follows up with a right hand to earn the knockout victory.
