Dustin Joynson on being cornered by Odie Delaney during ONE: Bad Blood win

Dustin Joynson secures the victory over Hugo Cunha via a split decision at ONE: Bad Blood. This transpired on February 11th and the pugilistic proceedings emanated from Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The heavyweight collision took place on the event’s lead card portion. Joynson garnered his first victory in the ONE Circle and got himself back into the win column with a comprehensive effort vs the previously undefeated Cunha.

I spoke with Joynson at the post-event media day. Excerpts from our interaction are below.

If there was a greater comfortability with the global ruleset in his sophomore bout with ONE Championship

“Yeah, I guess. I mean, no matter how you look at it. Even if it was the Western ruleset or this one, I still feel like there’s no doubt in my mind that I won that.”

If the ability to weaponize pace was the biggest variable in Joynson’s estimation

“Yeah, I mean, after you saw me get up in the second round when he took me down. I kind of crushed his soul a bit there. And that’s the thing if I’m tired, they’re dying. That’s what I keep telling myself. If I’m pushing for it, I’m like push the pace, push the pace, push the pace. I’m like if I’m tired, he’s dying. That’s the only mentality that goes through my head when I’m fighting.”

Joynson’s wife debuting as his corner, Odie Delaney’s help, and how that whole experience was

“I mean, she was probably frightened. And she had a hard time watching. She just kept telling herself. There’s only 10 minutes left, only nine minutes left. But it was also really great. I met some good people here. Met Odie Delaney here and he cornered me as well. I was really happy to meet him. He’s such a great guy, new best friends (laughs).”
