Gilbert Burns

Gilbert Burns sets his sights on Jorge Masvidal after no response from Leon Edwards

Gilbert Burns is fresh off his UFC 264 win over Stephen Thompson and is already looking for some more action. Burns is one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC welterweight division and over the last few years, his only loss has come from the champion Kamaru Usman. The thing about Burns is that he is not one to shy away from taking on the tough opponents. After his unanimous decision victory of former title challenger Thompson, Burns was still looking to the top.

He has been actively looking for a fight with Leon Edwards, the man sitting right below him on the official rankings list. Edwards is undefeated in eight fights, with a no-contest thrown in. He should be right in line for the title and because of this may not be looking for another opportunity in the meantime. After multiple call-outs on Twitter, Burns is moving on from the Edwards fight and is looking in another direction.

A fight with Jorge Masvidal would be excellent for Burns. Masvidal has the skill and popularity to gain a main or co-main event slot, not to mention that a win over him would be great for the resume. Masvidal was the last man to face the champ, and for him, a fight against Burns and a win could seal the deal on another shot.

Not to put all his eggs in one basket, Gilbert Burns is covering all the bases with another call-out. This time he is taking aim at Nate Diaz.

This method of trash-talking on social media could be just the thing Burns needs to get the exciting fights. He has fought twice already this year after a very successful 2020. Now he is sitting at number three and with Colby Covington all but promised the next title shot, Burns looking for a fight with the next possible contenders is a smart plan.
