Gillian Robertson: ‘It’ll be a race to the throat’ vs. ‘untested’ Maycee Barber

To say Gillian Robertson is ready to fight Maycee Barber next Friday night would be an incredible understatement.

“The Savage” checked in with MyMMANews.com to discuss her upcoming fight with the unbeaten Barber at UFC Boston Oct. 18. The event will take place at the TD Garden and will air on ESPN2.

Robertson discusses “chomping at the bit” to compete after a long training camp, how she believes that everything is falling into place at the perfect time in her career, how quickly she was offered the fight with Barber following her TKO win over Sarah Frota at UFC 240, why she believes Barber is tough, dangerous, yet untested to this point in her career, the last time she has been this fired up for a fight, Barber’s rivalry with “irrelevant” Paige VanZant, her belief that teammate Joanna Jedrzejczyk would make weight for UFC Tampa despite the media reports, taking photos with her dog and much more.

In addition, the 24-year-old discusses how she visualizes the fight going down on the main card of UFC Boston next Friday night.

“I guess my style doesn’t look that intimidating,” Robertson said to MyMMANews.com. “‘I just have to avoid the takedown’ (is what they all think), until you get in there with me and you realize it’s not that easy to avoid the takedown. No matter what, I’m gonna drag you into my world and force you to the ground. I’m going to make sure we’re playing my game, not hers.

“It’s just a race to see how fast I can get to the throat. That’s all I’m looking for, going for the rear naked choke. Whether it takes me one round, two rounds, three rounds, I’m going for it. If I get stopped with strikes before that, then that’s what happens but I’m going to be constantly searching for the throat and you won’t be able to defend it. I’m just ready to go. I’m ready to get another finish on my record and there’s no way this is going three rounds. I’m going to go in there and make sure I get to the throat quick.”
