Janet Todd, ONE Championship

Janet Todd not interested in mixed rules bouts, enjoys stand-up fights

Janet Todd is the current ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion but will look to continue to cement her combat sports legacy when she meets Lara Fernandez for the Interim ONE Muay Thai Women’s Atomweight Championship at ONE: 159 on Friday, July 22 in Singapore.

While her focus may be on the upcoming challenge ahead of her, there is always the question of “what if” a certain fighter stepped out of their element and into another?  In a recent interview with GiveMeSports.com, Janet Todd was asked if she might compete in a mixed rules bout against ONE Championship atomweight MMA champion Angela Lee.  The promotion recently put on a mixed rules bout of alternating MMA and Muay Thai rounds between MMA great Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and Muay Thai sensation Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

“Absolutely not (laughs),” Todd said. “That is not a challenge I want! I absolutely respect Angela and what she’s accomplished but I like my stand-up (laughs)! I think a mixed-rules fight between Stamp [Fairtex] and Angela would be great though.”

For now it sounds as if Todd is not interested in a crossover and is completely focused on fighting on the feet.

Headlining the ONE: 159 show is reigning 2-division ONE World Champion Reinier de Ridder, who defends his middleweight belt against former titleholder Vitaly Bigdash.
