Donald Cerrone meets Joe Lauzon at UFC Fight Night in April

Joe Lauzon says his “knee works again” following scrapped Donald Cerrone fight at UFC Austin

Veteran UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon says his “knee works again” following his scrapped fight against Donald Cerrone at UFC Austin.

Lauzon and Cerrone were set to co-headline UFC Austin this past Saturday, but the fight was scrapped on the day of the fight due to a knee injury to Lauzon. According to Lauzon, his knee locked up immediately after weigh-ins on Friday, and he was not medically cleared to the fight. The most unfortunate part about the situation is that these two were supposed to fight back at UFC 274 in May, but that fight was also canceled after Cerrone fell ill following the weigh-ins. With the fight now being scratched twice, UFC president Dana White said he doesn’t plan on booking the bout again.

Taking to his social media following the bout’s cancelation, Lauzon explained to the fans what happened and why the fight was canceled. Fortunately, it appears his knee will be just fine.

“So you can’t make this up, but my knee works again. Someone sent me a video on Instagram about, like, ‘This sounds like a thing I do with my knee. You should check out this video.’ It was 100 percent – everything was exactly the problem I was having. It’s called a ‘tib-fib’ dislocation. Basically, the bones in my leg were dislocated. That’s why we couldn’t get it back. So I did the exercise in the video, and it popped back in. It’s insane. My leg fully works,” Lauzon said (h/t MMAjunkie.com).

According to Lauzon, he told the UFC that his knee was better on Saturday afternoon and that he still wanted to fight Cerrone, but the promotion dismissed the idea of having the two fight. At this point, it seems like the promotion will find different opponents for the two fighters.

Do you hope the UFC rebooks Joe Lauzon vs. Donald Cerrone, or is it better to find new opponents for both fighters?
