John Lyons on Fight2Win 128: “Leg lock within 90 seconds”

Anyone who follows the jiu jitsu scene and has not yet seen or heard of John Lyons, needs to familiarize themselves with the name. John has been on an absolute stampede as of late in his competition. As of recent, in his last two outings on the mat, John has taken out an advanced purple belt, as well as a brown belt…All while being a high level blue belt.

Obviously the belt color doesn’t define you as a grappler. Moreover, it shows your time invested, mixed with the skill level achieved to that point. Whereas John may be a natural phenom on the mats, he’s still relatively new to the sport, having only been training for four years.

“Don’t even throw me a ball” John laughs about his overall athletic ability. Neither Lyons brother were heavily involved in sports growing up, so to see them both thrive in a combat sports setting is uncanny. He credits his twin brother James Lyons (Stellar Fights 145lb MMA champion, Cowboy Fight Series Number 1 contender at 145lbs) for getting him into the sport in 2015 and he never looked back.

This weekend, October 19th, at the historic 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John Lyons takes on Brazilian purple belt-Felipe Ferreira at Fight2Win 128. The match will be featured on FloGrappling.com taking place on the earlier portion of the card. Touching on Ferreira as an opponent, John says, “I look at my opponents…I look at their body style more than really what they do anyway because I’m going to go in there and play my game, anyway.”

Tune in as John Lyons takes time to chop it up with me ahead of his Fight2Win bout against Felipe Ferreira this weekend in the city of brotherly love!
