After UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier dropped out of the main event of UFC 197 last night fans thought it was a nasty April Fools’ Day joke, but it wasn’t.
Speculation that Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson would step up on short notice began to circulate but it appears that Ovince Saint Preux is the man who stepped up to the plate.
Saint Preux (19-7) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Rafael Cavalcante in February and will now fight the former light heavyweight champion of the world.
UFC President Dana White confirmed the matchup tonight on ESPN Sportscenter. The fight will be contested for the interim title as it is uncertain how long Cormier will be out.
