Jorge Masvidal explains why he believes Nick Diaz will beat Robbie Lawler at UFC 266

Jorge Masvidal believes Nick Diaz will go up 2-0 against Robbie Lawler.

On the main card of UFC 266, Diaz is set to return to the Octagon for the first time since 2015 when he rematches Lawler. It’s an intriguing matchup given Diaz hasn’t fought for years while Lawler is on a losing skid. The oddsmakers have it a near pick’em with a slight lean towards Lawler, but for Masvidal, he believes the Stockton native will get his hand raised.

“(I’m) very interested in this outcome, of course,” Masvidal said in a Q&A on his YouTube channel (h/t MMAJunkie). “(I) love Robbie Lawler. We were teammates for about four years. (He’s) one of the better guys in the sport – just a stand-up dude, great dude, great fighter. I don’t think he’s the same fighter that he was four years ago. I haven’t seen Nick Diaz fight in eight years, so this fight to me is very, like – I don’t know what’s going to happen.

“I haven’t seen Nick fight. I didn’t know if he was staying in the best shape or not during these eight years,” Masvidal continued about Diaz-Lawler. “It’s not that ring rust is everything, but eight years is a lot of time to be sitting on the bench. So I want to say that Robbie hasn’t been looking like himself, he hasn’t been looking the greatest in his fights with – this is a tough one to call for me. But if I was going to put money on it, I’d probably lean toward Nick.”

If Nick Diaz does win it does set up a massive fight against Jorge Masvidal. “Gamebred” beat his younger brother, Nate at UFC 244 for the BMF title, so perhaps Nick wants that fight and the BMF belt is up for grabs. The storyline is there for the fight to happen, so there is a chance that’s why Masvidal believes Diaz wins.
