Kevin Holland announces he’s set to face Daniel Rodriguez at UFC 279
The always busy UFC welterweight Kevin Holland has got himself a fight on just a few weeks notice. Holland, who is currently riding a two-fight winning streak and most recently defeated Tim Means back in June, announced his next fight on his own Instagram page on Wednesday. While releasing a new song with him feature in it, Holland announced he will face Daniel Rodriguez at UFC 279 scheduled for September 10.
After spending time at middleweight in 2020 and 2021, Kevin Holland has been on a roll since his drop down to the 170-pound welterweight division. Both fights of his at welterweight have taken place this year and Holland secured a TKO victory over Alex Oliveira at UFC 272 in March of this year, and in June, he picked up a submission victory over Tim Means. It has been quite the resurgence for Holland since making the move down in weight classes, as he dropped two of his last three fights in the middleweight division, and had his last fight in the division end in a no-contest due to an accidental headbutt against Kyle Daukaus.
As for his scheduled opponent Daniel Rodriguez, he has not competed since getting the biggest win of his UFC tenure when he defeated former lightweight interim title challenger Kevin Lee in August of 2021. Despite not having fought yet in 2022, Rodriguez will come into the fight against Kevin Holland on a three-fight winning streak with wins over Lee, Mike Perry, and a first-round finish over Preston Parsons, respectively.
With both Holland and Rodriguez coming into the fight on winning streaks, a big finish in the fight could be mean a step closer into the Top-15 division rankings for the winner. UFC 279 takes place on September 10 at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
