L.J. Reboli wins Maverick MMA lightweight championship

Maverick MMA returns with Maverick 16 at East Stroudsburg Armory

Maverick MMA will return on November 21 with the promotion’s first event since the coronavirus pandemic put a stranglehold on regional mixed martial arts promotions.

“It feels so good to be back,” Maverick MMA promoter Willy Sisca told MyMMANews. “Been a weird last several months and fighters need Maverick to do shows more than ever before.”

Maverick’s last event was held approximately a year ago with Maverick 15 from Genetti Manor in Dickson City. Matthew Semelsberger headlined that card defeating Kris Gratalo by way of doctor’s stoppage at the end of round two. Semelsberger went on to win one more regional fight and was later signed to the UFC and has already won his first outing there.

The former U.S. Army National Guard in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania will host Maverick 16 with a limited crowd due to coronavirus safety precautions.

“We’re excited to back with the Sherman team as we will make history as the first MMA event at the newly renovated Armory at 271 Washington Street in East Stroudsburg,” Sisca said.

Maverick MMA has previously held shows at the nearby Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg. The Armoy, which was built in 1928, was recently acquired by Sherman after the building is no longer in use by the National Guard.

Headlining Maverick 16 is Gracie New Jersey prospect and former advanced amateur lightweight champion Maverick MMA lightweight champion LJ Reboli.

“I can’t wait to finally put the spotlight on LJ Reboli in the main event,” Sisca said. “Anyone that follows Maverick knows how high the expectations have been for LJ since he joined the roster. Well, he’s gone 3-0 with his last 2 fights being electrifying finishes. He faces his toughest test to date in Ring of Combat and Bellator veteran Jerome Mickle. Jerome is a proven vet of MMA and if LJ gets through him, we will offer him a Lightweight title fight. I’m also very excited for the return of Marissa Jean and Charles Wallace, 2 Maverick regulars. Both have been training hard and are ready to re-establish themselves as forces in their weight divisions.”

Current Maverick 16 fight card:

LJ Reboli vs. Jerome Mickle
Ibrahim Kallie vs. Brett Pastore
Marissa Jean vs. Sam D’Angelo
Charles Wallace vs. Alex Parilla
