Maycee Barber vs. Roxanne Modafferi set for UFC 246

Maycee Barber wants to break Jon Jones’ record as the youngest champion in UFC history. At UFC 246 on Jan. 18, she’ll have the chance to get one step closer to her goal.

MMA Junkie first reported the news that Barber and Roxanne Modafferi have verbally agreed to fight each other in a women’s flyweight matchup.

Barber, 21, is one of the top young prospects in the promotion and sits as the No. 6 ranked flyweight. She currently has a perfect 8-0 record and is coming off a first-round TKO of Gillian Robertson at UFC Boston in October. Seven of her eight wins have coming by stoppage.

Barber, whose nickname is “The Future,” trains out of Roufusport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has been publicly calling out Paige VanZant for a number of months, but VanZant does not want to fight her.

Modafferi (23-16) is an MMA veteran. Right now she’s one spot ahead of Barber in the rankings at No. 9. The 37-year-old had a hot start to 2019 by upsetting Antonia Shevchenko, sister of current flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko. However, Modafferi couldn’t ride the momentum from her big win as she lost her next fight to Jennifer Maia.

UFC 246 is targeted for Las Vegas, but the location has not been finalized. The main event has also not been announced, but it is rumored to be the return of Conor McGregor.

Who takes it fight fans, Maycee Barber or Roxanne Modafferi?
