Nunes-Cyborg fight looks to put womens’ MMA on top

Ahead of her two-title championship fight against Cris Cyborg, Amanda Nunes is confident that she is in the best shape of her career.

“This biggest fight of my career,” Nunes stated during today’s UFC 232 media teleconference.

“I’ve focused everything mentally and power … focused for this fight,” she continued.

Cris Cyborg was skeptical of Nunes during the UFC conference call, specifically citing the time it took for this fight to come together. Nunes and Cyborg went back-and-forth at each other during that time. Nunes responded to the remark made by Cyborg.

“When you have time for training you don’t have time to think about promotion,” she stated.

While Nunes may have seemed flustered during that tradeoff, physically she couldn’t be more confident walking into this fight. When asked of her weight gain, Nunes was happy for the move up in weight.

“I feel amazing,” simply stated.

“I gained weight, I put on some muscle. I feel amazing. I feel well prepared. I feel like I’m ready for a battle,” she finished.

As for training for the fight, Nunes was more composed in her response. She feels that she has a solid game plan for next week.

“We all know Cris is very strong and powerful,” Nunes claimed.

“Every single fighter has a mistake. Of course Cris has mistakes, she’s a human. We train for every single mistake she has,” she said.

One thing both fighters could agree on was the magnitude this fight has for womens’ MMA moving forward.

“This fight is going to be the key to putting womens’ MMA in the top,” Nunes said.

“It’s not about me. It’s not about Cris. It’s about womens’ MMA to grow. We’re going to put on a show,” she finished.

Cyborg-Nunes will square off for the co-main event at UFC 232 Sat. Dec. 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
