ONE: Only the Brave’s Jarred Brooks “One Fight Away From Fighting Josh (Pacio)”
ONE: Only The Brave’s Jarred Brooks sees his Hiroba Minowa clash as a title eliminator.
Brooks versus Minowa goes down on January 28th, 2022 from Singapore Indoor Stadium. The two are positioned at number three and number four in the current ONE Championship strawweight rankings.
Minowa secured this clash with the help of a split decision over former ONE strawweight world champion Alex Silva. A victory that transpired at ONE: Fists of Fury 3 in March.
ONE: Only The Brave’s Jarred Brooks
Brooks had an emphatic ONE Championship debut when he finished Lito Adiwang in the ONE Next Gen III main event. This November clash jettisoned The Monkey God into the rankings right away and made himself a player to watch in the strawweight category for 2022.
Adiwang is a teammate of reigning ONE strawweight world champion Joshua Pacio at the well-regarded Team Lakay.
Speaking with ONEFC.com in a recent chat, Brooks answered questions regarding if there’s a redemptive element in the Team Lakay camp and what his individual goals for 2022 are.
“Yeah, there is that pressure underneath him to have to win for his team. Josh has a fighting IQ, and I understand that he has a fighting IQ. But at the end of the day, this is a chess match, and I think I’ve been doing mixed martial arts – all of the mixed martial arts – more than Josh compared to his wushu background and stuff like that. I think it will be a super exciting fight when it happens. I have to get past Minowa first. Minowa’s been doing the running game for a little while, and I’m going to Arnold Schwarzenegger him. ”
Brooks vs Pacio?
“I’m one fight away from fighting Josh (Pacio). I think that Minowa’s number one on the list. Then we go from there, and we got Pacio. And that’s up to him. That’s just a waiting game. I’m ready to fight right after Hiroba, if he wants to go. But he needs to get really, really prepared. I really want to have a good fight with Josh, and I don’t want it to necessarily go the distance, but I want to feel that thing in the back of my head like, ‘Oh, yeah, this guy’s really good.’ You know? I’m in the top three. I can do whatever I want. I feel like I’m free-range out here, man. So yeah, watch out, top five – anybody in this strawweight division. I feel like I’m a man on a mission.”
