Pam Sorenson ‘would love first title defense to be against Cris Cyborg’

Pam Sorenson discusses becoming the brand new Invicta FC featherweight champion last weekend in Kansas City, Kansas.

“Bam” captured the title with a unanimous decision victory over women’s MMA pioneer Kaitlin Young in the main event of this past Friday night’s Invicta FC 36 event.

Sorenson talks about the win, how it hasn’t sunk in that she has captured the championship, beating a friend and someone she has looked up to, the importance of not counting your chickens before they hatch in the MMA world, what kind of champion she plans to be, coming back from having a massive cyst removed back in January, competing in Bosnia later on this year for a world kickboxing championship and how traveling there is nerve-racking and much more.

In addition, Sorenson gives her take on the ongoing battle between UFC president Dana White and former women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg. Should Cyborg not return to the UFC, Sorenson would be honored to give one of the best in the history of women’s MMA an opportunity to regain the Invicta 145-pound title.

“With her, I believe nothing until I see it,” Sorenson explained to MyMMANews.com. “I think some of the UFC stuff… they’re just getting attention. It’s all a bunch of drama. I mean, when do you ever see Dana White doing interviews about cutting somebody from the UFC? I don’t know, I’d say give it a couple of weeks and she’ll be right back in the UFC.

“However, if she’s not, if it is, in fact, all through (between the UFC and Cris Cyborg), she came from Invicta — why not come back? I would love for my first title defense to be against Cris Cyborg. It would be such an honor to fight her. She’s been around the sport for so long. I’ve been saying for a long time that I’d love to fight her and it’s still true.”
