Patrick Brady has found fun in the cage: “It can’t be all serious”
Patrick Brady had just won his second professional mixed martial arts contest when he decided to FaceTime UFC heavyweight fighter and Martinez BJJ teammate, Chris Daukaus at the Art of War Cage Fighting 22 post-fight press conference to talk about his victory. The smile on their faces was infectious, and while it might appear that Brady was distracted, what was really being captured was the culmination of many weeks of hard work and dedication coming to fruition.
“Feels good to get the submission,” Brady said of his first career win by kimura. “At Martinez we train everything. A lot of our work is on the ground.”
Just moments prior to the press conference, Brady had defeated Cesar Gutierrez in the AOW 22 main event. The kimura that forced Gutierrez to tap, was Brady’s first career submission win.
The victory didn’t come easy for Brady. The big man, who weighed in at close to 255-pounds for his second pro MMA fight, was lifted off his feet and sent for a ride by the visiting Texas native in Gutierrez. From there it was a back-and-forth slugfest before the fight hit the mat.
“That’s what I like. I like these fights,” Brady told MyMMANews about the win. “This was his seventh pro fight. This was my second pro fight. I like these tough positions.”
Brady, 38, got a late start to mixed martial arts competition but has been soaking up the knowledge that coach Will Martinez and teammates such as Daukaus, and younger brother Kyle, have been offering him.
“Tom Aspinall just got that almost same submission on Volkov (at UFC London), but mine was a little different,” Brady stated at the post-fight presser.

“I just like that I am able to prove that I am the ‘super white belt,'” Brady jokingly said.
Quickly approaching 40-years of age, and having limited combat sports experience, Brady knows that he has to work extra hard if he wants to achieve his goal of earning a UFC contract. In doing so however, Brady also knows that he has to have fun along the way.
“It can’t be all serious,” he said.
“We were just bullshitting last night at the weigh-ins. I don’t have to hate the man, to fight him,” Brady said of the fight with Gutierrez.
With two pro wins now under his belt, Patrick Brady will likely move up in Tapology’s Pennyslvania heavyweight rankings, placing a target on his back.
For Brady however, it doesn’t matter who he shares the cage with. He’s just having fun!
