Payton Talbott shows off incredible striking, stops Cameron Saaiman at UFC Vegas 89

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, March 23, 2024, for UFC Vegas 89, going down live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a women’s strawweight bout between no. 7 ranked Amanda Ribas (13-4) and former two-time UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas (11-6).

Co-headlining the event is a heavyweight bout between Karl Williams (9-1) and Justin Tafa (7-3).

Our first feature fight of the evening came in the bantamweight division between a pair of young studs in 25 year old Payton Talbott (8-0) and 23 year old Cameron Saaiman (9-2).

Following successful 5-0 amateur tenures for each man, and following impressive Contender Series appearances for each of them as professionals, Talbott came into the bout having gone 1-0 inside the octagon with a third round submission win over Nick Aguirre.

Saaiman on the other hand, following a trio of wins to begin his promotional tenure over Steven Koslow (TKO), Leomana Martinez (MD), and Terrence Mitchell (TKO), came into tonight’s showcase off the first defeat of his career to Christian Rodriguez (UD) this past October.

Official Result: Payton Talbott def. Cameron Saaiman via TKO (punches) at :21 of round two

Talbott landed a hard one-two early on in the first, and continued to beat on Saaiman from there. He kept landing heavy punches, dropping Saaiman with a check left hook as he was coming in, and nearly finished the fight in the opening round with a vicious flying knee that landed perfectly.

Talbott followed up with an array of strikes for the finish, but was unable to secure it. He landed a good head kick as the round went on, and continued to control the center until the bell sounded.

Talbott landed another check left hook as Saaiman closed the distance with strikes once round two started, dropping him once again. A few follow up strikes, perhaps a few more than necessary, was all the referee needed to see and the fight was stopped.

Payton Talbott is a seriously talented prospect, Cameron Saaiman is a very skilled talent himself, but Talbott just ran right through him, improving to 2-0 inside the octagon tonight at UFC Vegas 89.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
