Sean Strickland, Paulo Costa, UFC 302

Sean Strickland to Paulo Costa – “You got your wish… Let’s do some bleeding”

It appears that a matchup between former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland and former title contender Paulo Costa is finally in the works.

Costa has gone on the record stating that Strickland turned down an offer for a matchup at UFC 302, to which the former champ stated he just wanted to be paid more.

Now it appears that a discussion has taken place, and the matchup may be coming to fruition.

“Well had a meeting with the UFC and told them that I don’t want to be rich. I want to be able to support a family after my career is done,” Strickland wrote on X.

“They actually were pretty supportive, made it happen. Thank you fans! Alright @BorrachinhaMMA you got your wish… Let’s do some bleeding.”

Strickland (28-6) lost the middleweight title by way of decision in his last outing, handing the belt over to current champion Dricus Du Plessis.

Costa (14-3) dropped a decision to former champion Robert Whittaker a month later.

The UFC has not officials announced the bout but it appears the contest has been verbally agreed upon to take place at UFC 302 on June 1 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The event’s main card airs on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
