Sodiq Yusuff gets back on the winning track at UFC Vegas 50

Sodiq Yusuff explains why he called out The Korean Zombie

UFC featherweight contender Sodiq Yusuff explained why he called out The Korean Zombie for an upcoming fight inside the Octagon.

Yusuff submitted short-notice opponent Don Shainis in just 30 seconds on the UFC Vegas 61 main card this past Saturday. Yusuff, the No. 12 ranked UFC featherweight, was originally set to meet No. 8 ranked Giga Chikadze in September, but his opponent was forced to withdraw from the bout. Instead of sitting around and waiting for a ranked opponent, Yusuff decided to take on the UFC newcomer Shainis, and he made quick work of him. It was actually the second-fastest submission in UFC featherweight division history.

Although Yusuff was willing to take on an unranked opponent just to keep busy, he now wants to face someone in the top 15. Following the win over Shainis, Yusuff used his post-fight interview as an opportunity to call out The Korean Zombie, who is the No. 6 ranked featherweight. After the event was over, Yusuff spoke to the media and explained in further detail why he wants to fight The Korean Zombie next.

“(I mentioned January for Jung) just so he can have enough time. If he wants to do it in December, that’s fine. But me and ‘Zombie,’ I think we’re two very entertaining guys. Be honest: You know you want to see that fight. It’s a good fight. The way I fight and the way he fights, I feel like we’re going to put on a great show. It could be a great opportunity for me to finally get a main event spot. I’ll be happy to take that fight,” Yusuff said post-fight on ESPN+ (via MMAjunkie.com).

It will be interesting to see if the UFC is interested in booking this matchup next, or if the promotion’s matchmakers have a different fight in mind for both Yusuff and the Korean Zombie next.

Who do you think would win a potential featherweight bout between Sodiq Yusuff and The Korean Zombie?
