Submission experts Demian Maia and Gilbert Burns verbally agree to UFC Brasilia bout
It appears that a pair of UFC welterweight submission artists will clash at UFC Brasilia on March 14 at UFC Brasilia. According to a report from Combate, Demian Maia (28-9) and Gilbert Burns (17-3) have verbally agreed to a fight, however contracts are not yet been issued.
Maia, 42, currently has 22 wins under the UFC banner, which as of press time is second only to Donald Cerrone who has 23. He is currently riding a three fight win streak including two by way of rear-naked choke submission. In Maia’s last outing he submitted the now retired Ben Askren in the UFC on ESPN+ 20 main event in Singapore.
Burns, who has been very actively recently in grappling contests including contests with Polaris, Quintet, Submission Underground, and Titan FC, last competed for the UFC in September where he earned a unanimous decision over Gunnar Nelson.
Burns enters the contest on a four fight win streak in the UFC. His last loss came at the hands of Dan Hooker in July 2018.
UFC Brasilia takes place at Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in Brasilia, Brazil, and is expected to air on ESPN+.
