Tito Ortiz Says He Can Beat Jon Jones With Proper Training Camp
Tito Ortiz is confident that he can solve the Jon Jones puzzle if given a full training camp.
Ortiz is a UFC Hall of Famer, who has had a few interactions with Jones. Ortiz called Jones “the best” following UFC 214. In exchange, Jones called Ortiz a “badass” and said he’s an inspiration to the current generation of fighters. Their conversation can be seen on the UFC 214 edition of “The Thrill and the Agony.”
“The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” appeared on The Domenick Nati Show and discussed a number of topics. One of them was on whether or not he can beat Jones today (via Bloody Elbow):
“Yup, I think I could. If I have a camp like I did the last one of 18 weeks, 100 percent,” he said. “There really hasn’t been anybody to fight Jon Jones, to get in his face, and stay in his face. Everybody else, they want to strike on the outside with him. He’s too damn long, you cannot do that. You got to get in the inside of him. That’s the way to fight him.
“As a coach and as a fighter, that’s the way to beat him,” he continued. “Someone should be aggressive enough to keep the fight, pushing him around. Make him feel uncomfortable.”
Ortiz is scheduled to return to action against former WWE star Alberto Del Rio. Their clash is set to be contested at 210 pounds and will be held under the Combate Americas banner. Ortiz is hoping to earn his third straight victory.
Jones is coming off a split decision victory over Thiago Santos. “Bones” made the second successful title defense in his current reign as UFC light heavyweight champion. Stick with MyMMANews for the latest on Jones’ next opponent.
