Tyson Pedro gets back on the winning track, KO’s Anton Turkalj early to open UFC 293 main card

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, September 9, 2023, for UFC 293, going down live from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

Headlining the event is a title clash between UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya (24-2) and no. 5 ranked Sean Strickland (27-5).

Co-headlining the event is a heavyweight affair between no. 6 ranked Tai Tuivasa (14-5) and no. 7 ranked former Bellator & M-1 Global heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov (36-10).

Opening up the main card tonight was a light-heavyweight affair between Tyson Pedro (10-4) and Anton Turkalj (8-3). Pedro had gone 2-1 since returning after a three-plus year layoff, while Turkalj had gone 0-2 thus far into his promotional tenure.

Turkalj opens up the bout with heavy pressure, landing a number of solid leg kicks onto the lead leg of Pedro.

Pedro lands a right hand that stuns Turkalj as he’s coming in, before following up with a few more, eventually dropping him; he couldn’t miss with that right hand tonight, handing Turkalj his third-straight loss.

Tyson Pedro gets back to his winning ways tonight at UFC 293, securing his third first-round knockout in his last four fights.
