Valentina Shevchenko vs Jessica Eye targeted for UFC 238

UFC 238 gets three bouts announced; including title fight

UFC 238 goes down on June 8 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, and the card is starting to take shape.

The UFC confirmed that Valentina Shevchenko will look to defend her women’s flyweight title against Jessica Eye. Meanwhile, the Chicago Tribune is reporting that Tatiana Suarez will take on Nina Ansaroff. As well as Katlyn Chookagian will take on Joanna Calderwood.

Shevchenko was last seen in the Octagon at UFC 231 where she won the vacant belt after beating Joanna Jedrzejczyk by unanimous decision. It was a dominating performance for Shevchenko who showed why many believe she will be a champion for a long time. Eye, on the other hand, has had a long road to what will be her first UFC title shot. Eye last fought at UFC 231 where she beat Chookagian by split-decision in what was considered a number one contender fight.

The other flyweight fight on the card is Chookagian taking on Calderwood in what could determine the next title contender. Chookagian lost her last fight to Eye but won her first two fights at flyweight. Calderwood, meanwhile last fought at UFC Brooklyn where she welcomed Arian Lispki to the Octagon. Many were counting out Calderwood in the fight but she put on a dominating performance and beat Lipski by decision. She is now 2-0 in the flyweight division and with another win could be getting the next title shot.

Arguably the most anticipated fight of the three is Suarez vs Ansaroff. Suarez to many is considered a future champion. She is currently 7-0, including four of those wins coming in the Octagon. Her last fight was at UFC 228 where she beat former champion, Carla Esparza, by TKO on the third round. Ansaroff meanwhile is coming off of an impressive win over Claudia Gadelha to bump her up the rankings. This fight could very well decide who gets the next strawweight title shot.
