UFC Fight Night 103 Results: B.J. Penn vs. Yair Rodriguez
Tonight a mixed martial arts legend, UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn returned to the octagon for the first time since July 2014.
Penn took on Yair Rodriguez in the main event of UFC Fight Night 103 from Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. Unfortunately for Penn it was Yair’s night. Aside from a shot or two that landed, Penn never stood a chance. Rodriguez ended the fight via TKO early in the second round
In the co-main event, Joe Lauzon won a decision over Marcin Held, however Lauzon himself did not see it that way.
The event kicks off at 6:15 ET on UFC Fight Pass then then switches over to FS 1 for preliminary action at 8 p.m. followed by the main card at 10 p.m., also on FS 1.
It will be interesting to see how well this UFC Phoenix card does on television ratings now that the NFL has rescheduled the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers playoff game to take place during the UFC time slot. The game was scheduled for earlier in the day, however a massive ice storm forced the schedule change.
Lookin’ For a Fight
UFC President Dana White signed Devin Powell after spotting him at a regional show while filming ‘Dana White: Lookin’ For a Fight.’ White saw potential in Powell and signed him on the spot, however tonight Powell ran into Drakkar Klose who defeated Powell via unanimous decision. Powell never really found his groove and it appeared as if the signing may have been too early or if Powell just isn’t cut out for the highest level of competition.
First Ezekiel Choke in UFC History
Aleksei Oleinik defeated Viktor Pesta to record the first every win via Ezekiel choke in the UFC octagon. Pesta was in full mount over Oleinik and the next thing you know the fight was over and he had lost.
He’s not Alexey “The Boa Constrictor” Oleynik for nothin’! What a submission!! #UFCPhoenix
