WLC Around the World
The sport of lethwei is popular mainly in Myanmar, and is the country’s national sport. WLC has five events planned there in the next year and a half. But perhaps the most interesting date is November 5th when WLC makes it’s United States debut. There is no location for the fight just yet.
In 2019, WLC ambassador, Dave Leduc, said the promotion was planning a US show soon. After WLC 11, Sein Phyo Hlaing, the promotions president, said they were aiming for a 2020 date. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were forced to push all dates back and postpone upcoming shows.
Also on the docket is dates in Cambodia, a large contributor to lethwei fighters, Thailand, home of Muay Thai, and Japan. Japan has Lethwei in Japan, a promotion in it’s own right. But the World Lethwei Championship has global goals and will enter that market as well.
