CFFC 91 results: Pat Sabatini taps Jesse Stirn to become two-time champion

Pat Sabatini put on a grappling display before tapping Jesse Stirn in round one to reclaim the vacant Cage Fury Fighting Championships featherweight title at CFFC 91 on Friday, Dec. 18.

Transitioning from position to position, Sabatini finally forced Stirn to tap in round two.

Pat Sabatini wins CFFC 145-pound title for second time

The second-straight night of Cage Fury Fighting Championships action takes place at CFFC 91 on Friday, Dec. 18.

Two title are on the line as former featherweight champion Pat Sabatini takes on Jesse Stirn for the vacant featherweight strap in the main event. Women’s strawweight title holder Elise Reed looks to make her first title defense against Jillian DeCoursey in the co-headliner.

Also on the card is rising welterweight prospect Solomon Renfro and the return of the former 155-pound champion and UFC fighter, Darrell Horcher.

Jose Perez vs. Jacob Dorman

Jose Perez wasted little time getting the fight to the ground and submitting Jacob Dorman.

On short notice, Perez scored an early takedown and dominated on the ground. Perez transitioned to mount quickly, but then Dorman gave up his back.

From there, Perez sunk in both hooks. Perez shockingly attempted a spladle and earned the tap.

Perez remained unbeaten at 2-0, while Dorman falls to 1-4.

Tyler Bunting vs. Jonathan Piersma

Piersma held on to a good thing to earn a first-round submission against Tyler Bunting.

Piersma earned a quick tkedown and passed guard immediately. Piersma sank in a choke and although Bunting defended at first, Piersma kept adjusting.

Bunting was forced to tap.

Piersma wins his professional debut, while Bunting drops his first professional contest.

 

Darrell Horcher vs. Vadim Ogar

Darrell Horcher threw bombs in his CFFC return.

The former lightweight champion finished Vadim Ogar with brutal ground and pound in round one.

Horcher landed a right hand early that put Ogar to the canvas. Horcher pounced on top of Ogar and defended an early submission attempt. Horcher responded by landing seven heavy left-handed punches to earn the finish.

The 33-year-old improves to 14-4, while Ogar falls to 6-4.

Solomon Renfro vs. Mike Malott

Malott waited for an opening.

Malott survived an early onslaught from Renfro on the feet to earn a first-round submission victory.

Renfro came out aggressive with heavy strikes. Malott waited and landed a right hand that put Renfro to the floor.

From there, the jiu-jitsu blackbelt locked in a rear-naked choke and handed Renfro his first professional defeat.

After Renfro poured on the striking early, Malott landed a right hand of his own. Renfro came tumbling down.

Malott moves to 6-1-1, while Renfro drops to 6-1. Only an hour into the event and there’s two title fights left.

Elise Reed [C] vs. Jillian DeCoursey [CFFC strawweight championship]

Elise Reed landed strikes in higher volume to defend her CFFC strawweight belt.

Although Jillian DeCoursey maintained control most of the fight, Reed remained active through all four rounds to earn a unanimous decision win.

Both women made their game plan obvious from the start. DeCoursey wanted to take the fight to the ground, while Ellen wanted to stand.

DeCoursey attempted a few submission attempts in round one. She latched on to an arm-bar, but Reed stacked pressure on top to defend in round one.

Both girls traded on the feet early into round two. DeCoursey caught a kick and scored a takedown. Reed was active with strikes from her back, but DeCoursey maintained control.

Reed landed an up kick that rocked DeCoursey’s head back. DeCoursey remained calm and finished the round top of Reed.

Reed opened up her striking more in the opening minute of the third. DeCoursey eventually shot in for a takedown, but Reed defended.

DeCoursey pinned Reed against the cage in a clinched position. Reed eventually broke free and separated.

DeCoursey shot for another takedown and eventually earned it. DeCoursey looked to isolate the left arm of Reed, but instead, Reed gave up full mount.

Reed escaped the back door, but DeCoursey made it a scramble. Reed chased DeCoursey and landed strikes. This is an interesting fight to score.

Reed worked some kicks in early during the fourth. DeCoursey shot in for a takedown, but Reed defended and landed punches.

DeCoursey rolled and attacked the leg. Reed landed strikes.

Reed defended and as DeCorsey shot in again, Reed countered and ended up on top. DeCoursey hung on to the leg.

Reed starts pouring on elbows and looks like she might be going for the finish. DeCoursey rolls for an arm bar.

Reed finishes the round on top. Easily the most lop-sided round with reed dominating the fourth.

Reed earns the decision nod.

Reed improves to 3-0 as champion, while DeCoursey drops to 4-3.

 

Pat Sabatini vs. Jesse Stirn [Vacant CFFC featherweight championship]

Pat Sabatini transitioned from submission to submission before tapping Jesse Stirn.

Sabatini established his ground game early by taking down Stirn in the first. Sabatini looked to isolate Stirn’s arm for a kimura, Stern defended.

Sabatini transitioned to submission attempts well. Sabatini looked for an arm-bar late, but Strin defended before the bell. A lop-sided round one for Sabatini.

Stirn was taken down immediately in round two. Sabatini transitioned to full mount, dominated position.

Sabatini poured on the ground and pound, forcing Stirn to scramble. Sabatini ended up in side control.

Sabatini attacks the arm of Stirn and gets the tap. Sabatini claims the title for the second time in his career.
