Emerging Welterweight Vergil Ortiz Jr. faces Michael McKinson this Saturday

Fast-rising welterweight star Vergil Ortiz Jr. will step into the ring this Saturday night against Michael McKinson.

Ortiz Jr. holds an undefeated record of 18-0 with all 18 wins coming by knockout. As a Golden Gloves silver medalist, Ortiz Jr. has been on a tear through the welterweight division since his professional debut in 2016. From knocking out the former junior welterweight champion Maurice Hooker to finishing Egidijus Kavaliauskas in eight rounds, the 23-year-old is no joke.

BoxRec has Ortiz Jr. ranked at number 5 in the world and number 3 in the United States.

Rankings don’t matter to him, however, as he told Fino Boxing “I feel like we’re there already” and he is just waiting for his shot against WBO champion Terrence Crawford, IBF and WBC Errol Spence Jr., or super champion Yordenis Ugas.

Standing across from Vergil Ortiz Jr. on Saturday night, however, will be fellow unbeaten welterweight Michael McKinson.

McKinson has gone 21-0 as a professional with 2 KOs. The former WBC youth world champion has defeated Martin Harkin, Chris Kongo, and Przemyslaw Runowski in his last outings.

Ranked at 24th in the world and 3rd in the United Kingdom via BoxRec, McKinson will be making his American debut come Saturday.
