Francis Marshall

Francis Marshall discusses earning a UFC contract on DWCS

Francis Marshall is one of the newest fighters on the UFC roster.

Earlier this month, Marshall flew from his home in New Jersey out to the fight capital of the world in Las Vegas to compete on the second episode of the sixth season of Dana White’s Contender Series.

In his fight with Connor Matthews, Marhsall showed just about everything a fighter can show in a fight.

The opening round was a high paced fighter in which both fighters got after it and at the end of the high action first round, Marshall found himself up 1-0 on the judges scorecards.

In the second round, Marshall was balanced as he controlled the stand up while working in two takedowns to clearly take the second round.

Finally in the last round, Marshall continued to pepper Matthews with shots in order to secure a unanimous decision win.

Following the fight, UFC president Dana White said he thought the fight could have been on the prelims of a pay per view and all the fans would go crazy over it due to the pace and the different transitions throughout the fight.

Not only did White praise the effort, but he also awarded Marshall with a UFC contract.

After earning his UFC contract, Marshall once again spoke with MyMMANews as he discussed experience on Dana White’s Contender Series, his plans to make his UFC debut later this year and his new nickname “The Fire,” which came courtesy of Michael Bisping and Laura Sanko.

You can watch his full interview in the video above.
