If the MMA Gods Love Us: Cory Sandhagen vs. Sean O’Malley

The MMA gods giveth, the MMA gods taketh. Today I’m here to ask them to give. After his win over Chito Vera last weekend, I’m here to humbly ask for a match to be made between Cory Sandhagen and Suga Sean O’Malley. It’s a striking fan’s wet dream and one that I hope is made.

Cory Sandhagen vs. Sean O’Malley, Please and Thank You

I know Cory Sandhagen called out Merab Dvalishvili for a number one contender fight. In all honesty, that is a fantastic fight in its own right. It’s just that I feel like Sandhagen vs. O’Malley is a better fight.

In the first edition of If the MMA Gods Love Us,I talked about the merits of a matchup between Stephen Thompson vs. Michel Pereira. Today’s is for very similar reasons. Both O’Malley and Sandhagen are superb switch hitters with high technical abilities.

What’s more intriguing about Sandhagen-O’Malley in contrast with Wonderboy-Pereira is the stakes attached to it. Let’s face it, Thompson is on the back nine of his career. Sandhagen and O’Malley are both likely top three in the loaded bantamweight division. There are boogeymen coming up like Adrian Yanez and Umar Nurmagomedov. But this fight is the now fight of bantamweight.

While this was a compelling fight pre-Vera, after the last performance from Sandhagen, this fight is all the better with the emergence of D1 Cory Sandhagen.

How does Sean O’Malley deal with a volume striker like him? Will Sandhagen come out in a wrestling singlet? Will O’Malley stop the low kicks from Cory Sandhagen? These are all questions I need answered.

So, I come before you, humbly, O great and powerful MMA gods. I offer up in sacrifice Sergei Pavlovich vs. Curtis Blaydes, Jack Hermansson vs. Brendan Allen, and all future Holly Holm fights. In return, I just ask for one thing: Cory Sandhagen vs. Sean O’Malley.
