Iran Executes Boxing Coach, Ali Mutairi; Torture And Forced Confession Suspected
According to sources in Iran, The Islamic Regime has executed yet another athlete. This time, former amateur boxer and regional boxing coach, Ali Mutairi, was killed by the Irani government. Mutairi was only 30 years old. He was executed on January 29th, 2021. His family was not notified on his killing and did not to say their goodbyes.
Mutairi was arrested for “moharebeh,” which is “War against God,” and “corruption on Earth.” The Iran government accused him of being a member of ISIS and killing two members of the government backed militia, Basijis. The connection to ISIS was not verified and those close to Mutairi claim it was false. Human rights activists in Iran say Mutairi was tortured, both physically and mentally while he was held in the Intelligence Agency’s detention center. He was then transferred to the Sheiban Prison where he was also harassed and put into solitary confinement.
Ali Mutairi fought back against his accusers, being on a hunger strike since February 25, along with fellow prisoners, Jasseem Heydari, Ali Khosraji, Hossein Silavi, and Ali Mojaddam. The group protested torture, the cruel treatments and the denying of family visits. Reports also state that Mutairi and the group of protestors sewed their lips shut for the hunger strike.
The two men Mutairi has been accused of murdering in 2018 were Bashir Hamidi and Hassan Karun Bahmanshir. Mutairi was denied a lawyer early on in the case. After being tortured brutally, Mutairi said to the interrogator, “I have nothing to lose, what to write and where to sign so that you can execute me.”
Truly a sad scene from Iran as they continue to kill their citizens with such ease. Thoughts and prayers go out to Ali Mutairi and his family and friends.
My MMA News tried to find more information on the boxing of Ali Mutairi but could not come across anything on Tapology, BoxRec, or Sherdog. This is not to say Mutairi did not compete, instead records from the region are hard to come by. If you have any information on Mutairi’s boxing career, reach out so we can memorialize it here.
